about
Lew Moss and the Lost Cause write songs from the perspective of kids who spent their life moving from place to place. Touching on a wide variety of genres, but never settling down, their eclectic collection of songs is sewn together with emotion and stories of depression, anxiety, doubt, and resolve.
The band formed in early 2016 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, when singer/songwriter Lew Moss had a desire to bring a grandiose feeling to his then solo acoustic act. He carefully assembled musicians from his native Halifax music scene that could embolden his compositions with their own talents. He found drummer Gary Peacock through his already established connections. Peacock, being a well-known face in the Halifax music scene and fronting weekly events such as Gottijam, agreed to take part in Moss’s project. Around this time, Heather Slade was also asked to add her unique horn talents to the sound of the project. Slade and Peacock had played together in bands such as the locally acclaimed group, Rasquatch. After Peacock and Slade agreed, Moss had a guitarist in mind that could add an atmospheric sound to the project. The local enigma named Shuvanjan Karmaker, who frequented open mic nights around Halifax, whole heartedly agreed to add his distinctive atmospheric sound so the group. The last component was, of course, to add a bassist. Slade suggested Chad Fudge, with whom she had attended university. Who was also known in the music scene to be a versatile bass player, starting from Jazz and cycling between grunge, rock, and experimental.
After a few months of carefully composing music together, the five members began to play shows to accrue local reputation. Eventually, shows were being offered to the group from all facets of the local music scene. The group eventually picked up steam and more recognition after playing large shows such as festivals and festal outdoor shows. They also began to record tunes, including the locally celebrated I Don’t Mind. The lively show-goers who attended the Lew Moss and the Lost Cause shows were soon able to join in on choruses and sang lyrics along with the band in a spirited fashion. It wasn’t long after initial recording began that the band scooped up two more fabulous members. Mark Gallant, a local musician added banjo into the already folky mix of music, while Alyson Sarty added her voice to create deeper and richer vocal harmonies with the rest of the group.
Lew Moss and the Lost Cause are still writing and playing their unique brand of music all around Nova Scotia, and will continue to hone their alternative folk rock sound. Their journey is just starting, and will evolve throughout the upcoming years!
lyrics
I don't mind (x3)
I don't mind at all
but could you
catch me as (x3)
catch me as I fall
you can
tie me down (x3)
tie me down and kiss me
Cause I don't know
I don't know (x2)
what it is I'm missing
out on anymore
and I am hoping for something but I'm not sure
no I'm not sure
of anything anymore
and I don't know if this means anything to you
but could you help me out
cause everything's so damn confusing and
its freaking me out
ya its freaking me out
Looking back (x3)
looking back at life
I think that (x3)
I think that they were right
And we should just take it
just take it (x2)
just take it slow
'cause there's nowhere
there's nowhere (x2)
there's nowhere to go
to get away from yourself
and I have given up on looking can't you tell?
Oh can't you tell when i'm paranoid and bugging out
When I'm hopeless and I'm having doubts
'cause it feels like I've been given the greater part
of a lesser piece
but I'm trying not to let that fact eat away at
Eat away at me (x3)
cause goodness me I'm a loser a freak
an abuser give me an escape I need a cure
something to kill the pain I'm living life with half a brain
and I'm losing track can't go back to when I wasn't insane
its too late for me
I'm losing light you see
coming down with a case of uncertainty
If the devil knew I was losing sleep she'd smile at me sweetly
sing a soothing lullaby then abandon me completely
and I'd wander around looking dumb looking down
looking for a sound that can't be found
put my head to the ground and listen
feel like somethings always missing but
I don't mind (x16)
